Growing Up in Maghloora, Kashmir
In the small village of Maghloora in Kashmir, 11-year-old Aizah lives with her mother, younger brother, and younger sister. Aizah, who is in Class 6, attends a READ Foundation school with all three of her siblings.
Aizah was only two years old when her father passed away from a heart attack. His sudden death left the family without financial support. Not long after, her mother had a serious accident, and she was left struggling to look after Aziah and her siblings. Since then, life has been a daily challenge.
Support From the Orphan Sponsorship Programme
Aizah’s mother learned about the READ Foundation Orphan Sponsorship Programme while trying to enrol her children in school. She explained that she could not afford the school fees, and the READ Foundation staff informed her that her children could attend for free with the programme’s support. In addition to covering education costs, the programme also provides the family with a small monthly allowance, allowing the caregiver to support the children outside of school with any essentials they may need.
This support has been essential for Aizah’s family. It ensures that all three children can continue their education and that their basic needs are met. They live in a small home, and although finances remain limited, education has brought hope and structure to their lives.
Daily Life and the Journey to School
Aizah and her siblings walk to school every day. Their mother accompanies them both in the morning and when classes end.. Despite the distance, Aizah enjoys the walk and looks forward to school each day.
She says, “I love going to school because they have swings there.”
For many children like Aizah, school is not just a place to study but also a safe haven where children can be protected and nurtured, and given the chance to dream again.
In the face of conflict, poverty, or displacement, school becomes their sanctuary, a place where trauma begins to heal, friendships form, and futures take root.

Dreams for the Future
Aizah’s favourite subject is Islamiyat, and she hopes to become a teacher one day. She looks up to her teacher, Miss Muneeba, who inspires her to teach Islamiyat to children when she grows up.
She says, “It’s important to go to school because education helps us achieve our goals. I need education to become a teacher.”
Aizah dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up. She believes education is the key to achieving her goals and wants to guide other children in her community just as her teachers have guided her.
How Education Is Changing Her Life
Thanks to the Orphan Sponsorship Programme, Aizah and her siblings have stability and opportunity. The consistent support allows their mother to focus on caring for them without worrying about school fees or supplies.
For Aizah, school has become a place of safety and friendship. It provides her with the tools she needs to build a better future and the confidence to believe that she can succeed.

A Path Forward
Aizah’s story represents many children in remote communities who face financial and personal challenges but continue to pursue education. Through READ Foundation’s support, children like Aizah can stay in school, learn with dignity, and prepare for brighter futures.
